Recent Field Recordings and New Music

Between August and November 2024, I released three coastal field recording albums: Meditations on the Coming FloodOcean Forms, and Coastal Contours and Voices. These albums are the result of months of hiking, recording, and capturing the subtle yet powerful sounds of the coast, from the calm ebb and flow of tides to the intense moments that reflect nature’s raw power, offering a range of sounds from serene to tumultuous. All three albums are free to download on my Bandcamp page.

I’ve also put out a couple of albums under the chik white name. In November, the UK label Soundholes released a limited-run cassette of St!mming, a collaboration I recorded in Toronto with multi-instrumentalist Naomi McCarroll-Butler. The album recently received high praise from Byron Coley in The Wire—you can check out that review here.

In January, I self-released my first-ever solo guitar and voice album, clowning the town. These twenty tracks, all improvised, were recorded at the end of 2024. It’s a pretty far-out album, but folks seem to dig it. I’ve been enjoying playing guitar over the last few months, so this one felt right. It’s currently available as a digital-only release, but a limited run of clowning the town cassettes is coming soon.

Finally, I have a handful of June tour dates to announce—I’ll be playing solo guitar, jaw harp, voice, harmonica, and who knows what else… Stay tuned for more details.
